Non-Negotiables

What practices give you more space to move through times of transition with ease?

My son started preschool last week and witnessing his excitement to explore his independence as he eagerly hugged me and my husband goodbye was by far one of my sweetest parenting moments. Only to be topped by his gleeful play-by-play of his day on our walk home.

It was a pendulum swing though, because it came on the heels of one of our most challenging weeks. Big transitions often equals big emotions. Let's just say, not all the tantrums were his.

I haven't been perfect but I can't help but wonder how this transition would be going if I wasn't kept up with my nightly grounding ritual.

Life has its moments when it's so full that we feel we might burst. And if we're not present with these moments they can overwhelm us causing us to miss the beauty that is in the everyday. When we start understanding that everything, including our feelings, thoughts, past experiences, relationships, and expectations, carry a certain kind of energy, we open ourselves up to finding ways to let the energy flow.

We create more room within ourselves, giving us the power and confidence to navigate through whatever comes our way.

Ya know, it's easy to think that letting go of what no longer serves us and reclaiming our inner strength is a one-time thing, but the truth is, it's an ongoing journey. Grounding, clearing, and finding our center—it's a daily choice, a lifestyle.

For me, it's become non-negotiable. I wasn't always like this; there were times when I'd let my grounding ritual slide. But as life has gotten fuller, I've come to realize that these practices aren't just helpful, they're necessary.

Do you know your non-negotiables?

Do you have practices that help you to move through this brutiful (beautiful + brutal) life while giving space for yourself to actually be present and participate in its creation?

Let this be a nudge to create them, find them, and do them.

And in a time where we are more aware than ever of the urgency to care for our emotional, mental, and physical well-being, I can't nudge hard enough.

Your future self will thank you.
