Like that slow morning stretch… Happy Imbolc

It's February 1st and we're at
the beginning of the end
of Winter.

Imbolc/Candlemas Blessings to you, sweet friend!

Imbolc (Pagan)
Candlemas (Christian)-
the midpoint between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox.

It’s that slow morning stretch before getting out of bed.
Where Earth’s awakening mirrors our own.

Spring is, ever so slightly, in the air-- a subtle yet profound shift within mind, body, and spirit.

My “Write It And Go” Era

“Are you gonna just scoot your whole way there?” I find myself asking my son.

He was scooting across the floor on his butt down the hall toward the bathroom. It was our last stop before bedtime.

This silliness is exactly what I would have imagined parenting a 3 year old to be like. What I didn’t imagine is how tired I would be and how much I would want him to just be asleep already. But, luckily, this night, I did find a lot of amusement in watching him in his little plaid Christmas jammies, scooting all the way down the hall and through the bathroom until he reached his potty.

I took a mental snapshot and filed it under adorable memories that I will miss someday.

Attune to Spirit, Attune to Truth

When you’re attuned to spirit, you’re attuned to what’s true. And even though the truth can hurt sometimes, it also feels good.

This is why I say that when I was grieving the loss of my first husband I felt better than when I was running my yoga studio.

When Jhonny died, the grief was so loud it drowned out anyone else's expectations or ideas of how I should be. Despite it being the most painful time in my life, I also felt more in my power than I had ever been. It was a taste of what happens when you're not carrying everyone else's baggage.

A couple years after his death, an opportunity presented itself to buy a yoga studio and become a business owner of a wellness space where I could offer my classes and foster community.

Dreamy right?

Well, while it was exciting at first, it didn’t feel that way as time went on.

Non-Negotiables

What practices give you more space to move through times of transition with ease?

Life has its moments when it's so full that we feel we might burst. And if we're not present with these moments they can overwhelm us causing us to miss the beauty that is in the everyday. When we start understanding that everything, including our feelings, thoughts, past experiences, relationships, and expectations, carry a certain kind of energy, we open ourselves up to finding ways to let the energy flow.

EMOTION = Energy in Motion

When we understand that everything is ENERGY- including emotions, thoughts, trauma, ideas, sensation, and more-

we empower ourselves to find ways to MOVE the energy.

Physical movement of the body is where we can bring what is unseen into our tangible experience to be worked with.

There are many practices to do this. The reason I am highlighting free form dance is because anyone can do it anywhere at anytime, with music or without.

🎶But if possible I suggest using music because it is a supportive guide in accessing your senses.

👉🏼 Do you want steps and tips on how to access this method?

Simple Sensation of being alive

Here’s a little known fact about me:
my senior project in university was a collection of my original poems.

While other students were starting businesses, developing software, creating wine labels, and building wind turbines, I was describing mundane things in interesting ways.

At the time, I didn’t think my type of project would leave much of a mark on the world. Even now I sometimes question the importance of it.

However, every time I find myself enraptured by a poem I found on Instagram or a beautifully written social media post (platforms where I admittedly spend a decent amount of time), I feel my whole body relax and exhale into the extra-ordinariness of life and it feels like this sort of experience might actually be the point of being human; living in a body, in the moment, aware of where I’ve come from, where I am, and open to where I’m going.

The simple sensation of being alive.

It’s been years since I wrote a poem. That is, until today.

a swimsuit and a decision

“I had a choice. I could carry this insecurity and self-consciousness with me indefinitely, allowing it to steal joy and peace from this one beautiful life, or I could set it down and let it die with the version of me that lived before.”
